MEET YUMIKO :

OWNER & FOUNDER OF LEAF & LANTERN

PSYCHOTHERAPY

About Yumiko (she/her):

Hello and welcome! My name is Yumiko, and I am the owner and founder of Leaf & Lantern Psychotherapy. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and member of the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario), CCPA (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association), and AHP (Association for Humanistic Psychology). I hold undergraduate degrees in East Asian Studies and Psychology as well as a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology.

I created Leaf & Lantern with the intention of developing a compassionate, inclusive and safe space for those seeking to process their lived experiences, integrate trauma, rediscover themselves, and learn how to live in alignment with their authentic selves.

Values of Leaf & Lantern Psychotherapy:

At Leaf & Lantern, your lived experiences are honoured from a BIPOC, culturally competent, and queer perspective by acknowledging the ways in which the global political climate can impact your mental health and perpetuate cycles of trauma.

As a biracial therapist committed to decolonization and anti-racist mental health practices, I use a non-pathologizing lens because I strongly believe that most of our behaviours stem from an attempt to have our basic human needs met. We do our best with the tools we are given and the messaging we have internalized, however we may come to realize that we have developed ways of thinking and relating to others that may be unintentionally sustaining our distress.

Let’s work together towards healing so that you can embrace all the parts that make up your authentic self. I am ready to meet you where you’re at, follow your pace, and walk along side with you every step of the way.

Outside of Therapy

When I’m not busy connecting with my clients, I love to recharge by curling up with a good thriller or gothic horror book on the couch with my cat, Ollie. I also love to explore cafés, spend time out in nature, and deepen my connection to my Japanese heritage through language, media, and food.
